LAS VEGAS—Placement of peripheral nerve blocks is not associated with the rate of inpatient falls in the hospital’s surgical, trauma and burn services, according to a new study.
The results from a single-site study, the investigators noted, indicate that the benefits of nerve blocks in these patients largely outweigh the risk for falls, and show a need for other strategies to minimize falls, including education, awareness and use of motor-sparing nerve blocks.
